Arthur Kipps is a man touched by tragedy as we learn following his storming away in a temper from Victorian festivities, complete with ghost stories, on a snowy Christmas Eve. He is fully aware that stories of ghosts may be told in frivolous fashion, but that ghosts themselves — real ghosts — rarely manifest in such a mood. Ashamed of his bad behavior and wishing to explain himself and make it up to his wife, he begins to write the story of his own horrific experience following the death of Mrs. Drablow in the remote village of Crythin Gifford. A young attorney, he travels up North to represent his firm at her funeral and clear up outstanding legal affairs. The reader follows Kipps casually but is soon caught up in a fearful exploration of human despair and its consequence.

Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to prevent nuclear Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X's X-Men.

New Johnny English movie has McNulty, Scully

Oh you better believe they made another Johnny English. Johnny English Reborn opens this fall, and now the trailer is here for your viewing pleasure. The plot is that Johnny English has a contract to do something, so he does it in a weird way while making funny faces that creep everyone out. Even as someone who’s lived in America most of my life, there are many British things that I “get”: Ricky Gervais, gravy, sarcasm — and then there’s Mr. Bean. As far as I’m concerned, the best thing Rowan Atkinson ever gave me was a commenter named “Mr. Bean with a Turkey on His Head.”

As far as I can tell, he’s like the British equivalent of Larry the Cable Guy, some strange Englishman minstrel show. Which is to say, “you guys go ahead, I’m gonna sit this one out.” Final tally: Two groin shots, three face shots. Seemed a little light, frankly.

‘Fright Night:’ New High-Res Images

Images From official stills from Craig Gillespie‘s 3D Fright Night remake, which stars Colin Farrell, Anton Yelchin, Imogen Poots, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Toni Collette, and David Tennant. The shots were pretty low-quality, though. Now we’ve got high-res versions of those images, complete with three more high-res images, and two magazine scans.

None of these show enough vampiric action for my liking — and none have David Tennant; get an early look at him here — but they might be worth a look, anyway, especially on a slow Friday.

The top tier in this gallery is the new set of stills; the middle is the upgrade from yesterday, and the last two shots are EW scans from The Playlist.

As you can tell by the costumes, most of these images all come from roughly the same place in the film. I think only the shot of Imogen Poots loading the gun is from anything other than the first act. (And I’m pretty sure that shot comes towards the end of the film.) In fact, with the exception of that shot and the one of Christopher Mintz-Plasse as Evil Ed, these shots are all from one extended sequence that represents the first encounter between Charlie Brewster (Anton Yelchin) and the vampire played by Colin Farrell. In the original film things play out very differently than they do this time. The remake delivers a pretty big sequence right off the bat when the vampire checks in on the Brewster family.
